I have yet to break one of these but it is possable.

One of the parts it's not worth me making - requires some precision for the tricopter to fly consistently well. To be done right, I imagine this requires a jig. SimpleCopter's price on this is suitably low and I've not broken one yet. Just getting another for backup.

I don't have a drill press so it is easier for me to buy the yaw block rather than hack it with a hand drill. They work great. A simple effective yaw control mech. I agree with Scott the HS-82 is a great analog servo. I use the HS-82 and Scott's yaw block on all three of my TriCopters.
